Set-Up Instructions for Beam Splashes

Included Subsystems

  • Subsystems In: Tile, LAr, L1Calo, TRT, SCT Endcaps only, RPC, MDT, CSC, ALFA, BCM, LUCID
  • Subsystems Out: Pixel, IBL, DBM

Useful Information

CSC

  • change number of samples to 9
  • run in unsparsified mode (passthrough) i.e. no clustering

CTP

  • Call CTP expert on-call and have them set:
    • Simple Dead Time 2500
    • complex 2/400 8/380
    • readout window: 30 BC (15 before, 15 after)

Run Control

  • beam type: protons
  • data tag: data15_1beam
  • recording: enabled
  • lumiblock length: 10s (at CONFIG state)
  • start run with RNDM in both express and physics streams: PS [ 468,468 ]
  • after 15 minutes switch to one of the prescales for splashes

Trigger

  • SM key 2074 (Tested Thu 03 March)
  • Bunch Group 1003
  • prescale sets:
    • 468,468 Prescales used to start the run (0.3 Hz random to express / event display)
    • 460,465 for Beam 1 (EM20C)
    • 459,460 for Beam 2 (EM20A)
    • 462,463 for Beam 1 (J75C)
    • 461,464 for Beam 2 (J75A)
    • 464,466 for Beam 1 MBTS_4_C
    • 463,467 for Beam 2 MBTS_4_A
    • 466,461 for Beam 1 TAU_20_C
    • 465,462 for Beam 2 TAU_20_A

Event Display

  • Call Event Display on-call and have them:
    • set eventdisplay JO timeout to 40hrs
    • change configuration to beam splash (changing symlinks)
      • expert will restart the partition this should not be done by anyone else for the beam splash setup
  • Re-start the event display clients
    • connect to server
    • beamsplashconfig01 -> Just BS
    • Beamsplasconfig02 -> BS+random

Tile

  • before initializing
  • For actual beam splashes:
  • For test-runs emulating splashes with tile laser pulses
    • select wheel 8 (in case we need pulsing) on tile panel, Laser II
  • at INITIAL
    • globals -> processing format "raw data" (check)
    • globals -> optional parameters check "enable iterations"
    • Click "globals write to IS"

TDAQ Segment

  • HLT-2 disabled, HLT-1 enabled
  • SFO: disable all except 7-9
  • Call TDAQ on-call and ask
    • for the SFO to be put in flushing mode
    • for automatic clock switching to be disabled

LAr

  • load LAr panel
  • Change the following parameters:
    • samples: 32
    • latency: 109
    • first sample: 5
    • format: transparent
    • run type: raw data
    • click "save parameters to the module and save into the DB file"

L1Calo

  • OKS set-up for ring-of-fire
  • at initial: * L1Calo pane -> Readout configuration -> extended_ID2

At INITIAL

  • Tile panel:
    • globals -> processing format "raw data" (check)
    • globals -> optional parameters check "enable iterations"
    • Click "globals write to IS"
  • Double check LAr settings (LAr panel -> PARAMS_GLOBAL)
    • samples: 32
    • latency: 109
    • first sample: 5
    • format: transparent
    • run type: raw data
    • click "save parameters to the module and save into the DB file"
  • Check L1Calo settings to be changed at INITIAL * L1Calo pane -> Readout configuration -> extended_ID2

At CONNECTED

  • change lumiblock length to 10s
  • check SMK, prescales
  • double check run parameters and writing enabled

Restore after beam splashes to return to high rate cosmics:

  • re-include SCT barrel
  • CTP 20 8/320 7/400
  • re-enable HLT-2
  • re-enabled SFO 7,9,10,11,12,13
  • ask TDAQ expert to put SFO 7 and 9 back to normal mode (they are in flushing mode)
  • restore L1Calo setup (ask expert)
  • Beam type: no beam
  • project tag: data15_cos
  • Lumi block length interval back to 60s
  • LAr samples 4, format-> format1, run type-> result, first sample -> 2, latency -> 107
  • Tile globals -> processing format "raw data" (uncheck)
  • Tile globals -> optional parameters uncheck "enable iterations"
  • L1Calo Readout configuration -> Default
  • Deadtime settings 5, 7/400, 7/400
